Construction of 19 km of Silk Road in Samangan province is underway

The first section of Silk Road from Dara-e-Zendan valley to downtown Aibak, which had previously been constructed; but the remaining 19-kilometer stretch from Khorram and Sarbagh districts to the capital Aibak is currently under construction by the Ministry of Public Works, which has 7% physical progress so far.

This section of Silk Road extends from the “Namnam Bridge” of Dara-e-Zendan valley into the center of the Khorram and Sarbagh districts, which including two bridges with lengths of 16 and 20 meters each, and 68 number culverts along with 260 meters long concrete ditches.

The project, worth more than 367 million Afghanis, was contracted between the Ministry of Public Works and a private company, which was funded by the Government of Afghanistan.

During the construction of this road, around 26,880 working days would be created, and with its completion, some 46,000 people will be directly benefited.

The total length of the Silk Road is about 140 km, which is passing through two districts namely Kohmard and Sighan, and finally reaches the center of Bamyan province.

Based on the long-term plan of the Ministry of Public Works, as a new route of transportation, this historical route of the Silk Road will connect the two neighboring provinces Samangan and Bamyan in near future, indeed.
